COLOUR FACTS
MENANDWOMEN SEE THE
COLOUR RED DIFFERENTLY:
While women can easily identify the different colour variants
of the colour red, men are completely unable to do so. It is
not by choice that they cannot tell the difference between
crimson and maroon it is actually tied down to their biology.
Women have two X-chromosomes and men only have one
X-chromosome. The gene that makes it possible to distinguish
the different variants of red is available on the X-chromosome.
This means that men are able to identify the colour red but
makes it hard to differentiate its variants.
PINK SOOTHES THE
NERVES:
The colour pink is known to have calming effects on people. The
colour gives a feeling of unconditional love and nurturing. In
colour psychology, pink is a sign of hope. It is a positive colour
inspiring warm and comforting feelings, a sense that everything
will be okay. In the early 1900s pink was considered a masculine
colour and blue a feminine colour. The idea was that pink being
a stronger colour was more suitable for the boy. It was also said
that since pink is closer to red hence more appropriate for boys.
BLUE ISTHEMOSTCOMMON
FAVOURITE COLOUR:
Blue is one of the most favoured colours in the world. Blue ranks
high in most favoured colour. This is because it exudes a naturally
cool feeling. The second most favoured colour around the world is
the colour purple. Blue conveys a sense of trust, loyalty, cleanliness
and understanding. However it has also evolved as a symbol of
depression in American culture. ‘Singing the blues’ and ‘feeling blue’
are some examples of how it has been evolved in different cultures.
In ancient Rome, blue was worn by public servants, which marked
the beginning of the idea for most of today’s police uniforms. Did you
know that our ancestors didn’t even notice the colour blue existed?
Scientists believe that until we have a way to describe something,
wemay not see it there.A famous Greek poet Homer once described
the sea as ‘wine-dark sea’.
Colour is everywhere and it is in everything we experience on a daily basis. It evokes emotion without giving prior warning. We
are all familiar with colour and its basic concepts, but there are a lot of things we don’t really know about colour. Here is a list
of some amazing facts.
