DEALER PROFILE
Jyoti Hardware is one of the
oldest hardware stores in
Kenya and Nairobi in particular.
The hardware store, which is a
family business, was started
over 50 years ago and is run
by Hemant Patel. “I have spent
over 25 years in the business
and we are the exclusive Crown
Paints dealer,” said Patel.
The hardware and clientele
ranges from painters, home
owners,
constructors
and
institutions. Jyoti Hardware
has only one branch in the
country, which serves all the
customers.
Patel said the most exciting
thing about working with
Crown Paints as a dealer is,
“the heritage of the company
and their good quality paint”.
Last year, Crown Paints Kenya Limited
flew Mr and Mrs Barnabas Njuguna to
Brazil to watch the world cup. This was
a peak moment for Mr Njuguna, the
founder and proprietor of Muthokinju
Paints and Cement Hardware.
Today, the hardware store which was
started in 1996 is run by Mr Njuguna’s
son, Benjamin Kimani. “We used to buy
products from dealers,” Mr Kimani told
Brushstrokes in an interview; but four
years ago, Muthokinju inked a direct
dealership with Crown Paints. Today,
Muthokinju is one of the most successful
Crown Paints Kenya Limited dealers,
having grown from one branch in 1996 to
four in 2015. “We have branches in Ruaka,
Juja, Embu and Muranga, with our main
offices and our largest, in Kasarani,” said
Kimani.
At the same time, Mr Kimani disclosed
that Crown Paints products have helped
the firm grow its revenue. “We have
employed over 20 employees, which
is a testimony that we have created
employment,” he said.
He added, “The reason why we went for
Crown Paints products is because that is
what our customers wanted. Crown has
a rich heritage and good history of its
products”.

purchase vinyl silk, but we stock all Crown
Paints products such as fevicol, granites
and rough tough,” explained Kimani.
