PARTNERSHIP UPDATE
Last year, Crown Paints Kenya inked
several global partnerships. “For the
first time in Kenya we are introducing
silicone based paint. Although this
technology isn’t new and is being
practiced in other continents, we are
delighted to announce that Crown
Paints has partnered with Wacker
Chemie plc from Germany. Wacker
will provide expertise in silicone
technology since they are a world
leader in silicone based products,”
Crown Paints Kenya CEO Rakesh Rao
commented.
Crown Paints started manufacturing
silicone based paints in its factory at
LikoniRoad,whichtradesasPermacote
Ultraguard Silicone. Silicone enhances
the product strength to withstand all
extreme weather conditions.
In June, Crown Paints Kenya Limited
struck a deal with India’s leading
adhesive firm Pidilite Industries
to distribute the Fevicol range of
adhesives joining other players such
as Henkel. They now join Bayer and
Becker Industrial, who all distribute
adhesives.
At themoment, the firmCEOdisclosed,
“We are laying the foundation, with
anticipation of growing revenue on
adhesives, which will supplement
income from the sale of paint. We
are becoming more aggressive in the
adhesive market, and our goal is to
compound growth of 10 percent per
annum in the next five years,” said Mr
Rao.
The firm sells its range of paints across
East Africa but Kenya accounts for
most of its revenue. There is a huge
growth potential outsideNairobi aswell
as in other regional markets “because
of a growth being experienced in the
other urban areas. There is also a rise
in demand for furniture and other
items that use adhesives”.
Leading paint manufacturer, Crown
Paints Kenya Limited has been
awarded, a mark of identity titled
A Touch of Kenya, by Brand Kenya
Board (BKB) which was developed
to enhance the competitiveness of
Kenya’s products and services.
The mark is a modernized version
of the shield found on the nation’s
flag, which Ms Kimonye, BKB Chief
Executive Officer, said is necessary
in helping Kenya’s tourism sector
diversify away from its traditional
crowd pullers.
“We are talking about putting Kenya
out there at another level. We can
no longer be satisfied with just
marketing in Kenya,” she said.
“Our Vision is to create an innovative
and colourful brand in East Africa
and of course one of our core values
is innovation. Innovation is one of our
key strategies for competitiveness
in the market. We have invested
in an Innovation core team and an
internal innovation policy to push
the initiative,” explained Rao.
