Growthprospectsfortheconstructionindustry
in Kenya is set to increase if properly regulated
and managed. The National Construction
Authority mandated with the regulation of
the industry needs to be empowered more to
enhance growth. This is according to Martin
Tairo Maseghe of Architecture Kenya Media
Limited.
Maseghe who is a registered architect and
a certified public accountant also teaches
architecture students at the Technical
University. In addition he also publishes a bi-
monthly magazine known as Buildesign which
focuses primarily on the construction industry.
A graduate of University of Nairobi class of
2009, he worked for about four years at TIRAD
Architects before dropping out to venture into
business in 2012 when he established his own
publication Buildesign. “I get to write more
about the construction industry and projects
in the industry. I also have more interest in
writing with a few of my articles featured in
some local dailies”, he added.
Maseghe says when he was writing his thesis
back at the university; he hardly came across
sufficient information about local architecture.
“I decided to establish this publication out of
frustration because as a student of structural
design, I really suffered looking for information
which was rarely found”, he stated.
He however says that people have a
misconception about architecture as a
profession; they think we are in it for the
money only. “This profession is about passion
and pursuance of one’s dream, it is a field that
requires more patience and professionalism
than most”, he advised.
Throughout his work, he says Crown paints
has been his most trusted partner due to its
quality paints that stand out. He has initiated
a couple of projects in Westlands, Kajiado and
Garden Estatewhich he intends to see through
to completion. He says the profession is not
widely practiced in Kenya by many and his joy
is always derived from seeing projects being
implemented.
