Leading paint manufacturer Crown Paints has launched a range of Zero VOC paints in line with its commitment to offer innovative products of the highest international standards in East Africa. VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are air pollutants found in paints that could have a damaging effect on the environment as well as human health. New research globally has developed alternatives to VOCs that offer the same paint quality without the harmful chemical components. Crown Paints is the first company in the region to manufacture and offer these Zero VOC paints in Kenya in its abc ranges of emulsion paints.

We have been doing intensive research on manufacturing these eco-friendly paints locally and are pleased to announce that we have been successful, said Mr. Rakesh Rao, Crown Paints Group Chief Executive. The introduction of Zero VOC paints is proof of our commitment to offer the highest quality products and superior value to our customers in the region. It also reflects our mission to ensure that our products meet and exceed health and safety norms, he added.

The Crown Paints Zero VOC paint range contains special colourants imported from the United States.  These have been tested in the accredited analytical laboratory, TUV in Singapore, for Zero VOCs content as per the British Standard (BS) Method – BS EN ISO 11890-2:2006. Zero VOC Paints have a non-threatening environmental impact due to their high bio-degradability and are also ideal for people who are particularly sensitive to paint fumes. They will also be beneficial for painters and people who work with paint for extended periods by avoiding the chemicals that can impact respiratory health in the long term.

With the demand for architectural paint growing rapidly due to the robust construction industry worldwide, many government agencies are now enforcing Zero VOC paint production in their countries. International companies such as AkzoNobel, Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Asian Paints have taken the lead on this globally and we are delighted to be the first to do so in this region, added Mr. Rao.

Crown Paints Kenya Limited is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and is known for its high quality, value based products and services. It operates through an extensive network of dealers and showrooms in all major cities and towns in Kenya, and most recently launched an x million litre state-of-the-art production facility in Kisumu.
