Waterproofing failures cost billions of dollars annually, not to mention millions of man-hours of time lost in attending to these problems. Good waterproofing design will eliminate these problems.
Crystalline, a cementitious waterproofing system for concrete structures is a preferred and widely used waterproofing system worldwide. This system is also well accepted by leading RCC consultants, Structural Engineers and Architects in Kenya.
The Crystalline method of waterproofing offers the consumer an easy, reliable, hassle-free, less time-consuming system. It is a cementitious compound and is not a bituminous or membrane type. It is a multi-application product used in water excluding structures such as basements, foundations, construction joints, lift-shafts, retaining walls, tunnels and in water retaining structures such as water tanks, canals, harbor projects, dams.
This method works on formation of insoluble crystals, which blocks the minor cracks developed in the concrete structure. Crystalline products mainly consist of cement, fillers and other additives. When this crystalline comes into contact with water/moisture, the free lime or un-hydrated lime present in the concrete forms insoluble crystals which blocks the capillaries and minor cracks thereby stopping water ingress into the concrete, hence providing protection to reinforcement bars from corrosion.
It is good for both positive and negative sides of the concrete surfaces. However, as a principle of waterproofing it is always best to apply on the positive side as it stops the ingress of water into the structure. Only under unavoidable circumstances can it be applied on the negative side.
The application of Crystalline waterproofing system is easy and it can be applied by brush. It should be applied in two coats at an interval of 3 – 6 hours. It allows the concrete to breathe but does not act as a vapor barrier. The treated concrete can withstand significant hydrostatic pressure.
Dr. Fixit POLYPLUS CP is composed of high-quality cement, properly selected & graded inert aggregates, proprietary waterproofing active chemicals & additives. It is used as a chemically active waterproofing treatment for concrete. When mixed with water and applied as a brush coat to concrete, it penetrates deeply into the capillaries of the concrete & protects it against the permeability of water.
Benefits of Dr. Fixit Polyplus CP
- Chemical Resistance – Resists chemical attack (pH 3-11 constant contact, pH 2-12 intermittent contact) and provides a range of protection from freeze/ thaw cycles, aggressive subsoil waters, sea water, carbonates, chlorides, sulfates and nitrates
- Application advantage – Does not require protective plaster, applicable over SSD & wet surface
- Waterproofing – Stops water movement through concrete, becomes integral part of the structure
- Corrosion – Protects reinforcing steel against corrosion
- Sealing – Waterproofs minor cracking & seals shrinkage cracks up to 0.5 mm width
- Permeability – Resists permeation of water from positive & negative side of the concrete
- Chemical activation – It’s waterproofing capability increases with time. i.e. It remains permanently active
- Abrasion – Does not get affected by surface wear or abrasion, once the penetration is complete
- Hydrostatic pressure – Treated concrete withstands hydrostatic water pressure up to 15 metre head
- Protection– Protects concrete against contaminated water & corrosion
