Maximizing on storage in your Bedsitter

There is no more space in your bed-sitter. Or at least, you think there is no more space in your quater. But have you considered one of these sneaky storage spots? Here are six spots, perfect for stashing things, that you may not have thought about.

1. Right next to your toilet.
Chances are that no matter how small your bathroom, there are at least a few inches between your toilet bowl and the wall (or the bathroom cabinet). This is the perfect spot for a really slim cabinet with drawers (like this one, only 6 3/4″ wide). You’d be amazed at what you can fit into such a small space.

2. Above your kitchen cabinets.
The awkward space between the top of the kitchen cabinets and the ceiling provides plenty of opportunities for storage, see example.

3. Under your shelves.
Your shelves are stacked high — but what about the space under the shelves? These days there are plenty of storage solutions for squeezing out a little space beneath your cabinets or shelves.

4. Above the door.

Most bedsitters have at least a foot, if not more, between the top of the door and the ceiling. Mount a shelf up there and you’ll be taking advantage of storage space you never even knew you had.

5. On the door.
There are all kinds of readymade products for storing things on your doors, and they go way beyond those over-the-door shoe hangers (although those can be useful too). And of course there are plenty of hooks and racks that go over doors, and you should never underestimate the amount of things you can hang up.

6. Above your furniture.
There might be plenty of space in your quatre— maybe you just haven’t thought about it because it’s above something else. Use wall mounted shelves to reclaim the space above desks (and even beds, if you don’t live in earthquake country). Just make sure those suckers are properly secured to the wall, and you can put practically anything on them.
