Converting Our Children’s Artwork into Home Decor

There comes an age when a child’s greatest fascination is a pencil, crayon or pen. It’s almost like an epiphany to the child and woe unto you if your child chooses to unleash their creativity on your walls. This is the exact predicament Sylvia had been facing for four months.

My two year old girl just can’t stop doodling on my walls!” she narrated, the exasperation in her voice undeniable. “The irony is that inspite of my disapproval of her actions, I trully admire what those little fingers can create” she opined. Fortunately for Sylvia, after a month of hard work, the battle to teach and convince her daughter to do her creative work on paper and colouring books is almost won and the walls have been spared. But then, she now faces a new challenge; what to do with the piles of paper that the girl has been raveneously filling up with her sketches?

Today, Sylvia happily says that her quandary has been finally resolved after coming across some really creative solution online. “I am going to display these pieces on her bedroom wall, play room and even some in my bedroom” she enthuses. I concur that they would definitely make some cherished décor as well as serve as excellement pictorial memoirs for her daughter in the years to come.

Now that Sylvia has found a solution and is well on her way to implementing it, it’s only natural that we relished the opportunity of sharing it with you. So here are the 5 simple, yet creative ways that she plans to display her child’s art work.

  • Wire and Clip: Simple and chic, the wire and clip combo is a great way to display a multitude of colourful creations.
  • Hangers: Those cute hangers that come with baby clothes can do just fine when used to display their abstract and often haphazard forms of art.
  • Clothes pegs and yardsticks: This youthful, school house approach to display notes & schedules is equally effective (and creative) for displaying kiddy art.
  • Painted Shelves: Maximize wall space by adding floating shelves or plate rails.
  • Painted frames: For a whimsical take on a traditional collage wall, create a silhouette frame with a punchy colour of paint.

So there you have it folks! Problem solved with some colour and creative punch to boot.

These obviously aren’t the ony ways of creatively displaying your child’s artwork. Do share your thoughts and other creative ideas.
