Crown Paints Kenya Limited has successfully implemented the Environment Management System (EMS). based on continual improvement of its Environmental performance and periodical review of Environmental Objectives. This involves adopting Environmental friendly strategies of paint and resin production with the sole aim of preventing pollution and waste generation and also complying with all the Environment regulations.
This system is in line with ISO 14001:2004 which specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable an organization to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account legal requirements and other requirements to which the organization subscribes, and information about significant environmental aspects.
EMS is all about improving the Environmental objectives needed to be met by the company. It involves adopting Environmental friendly strategies of paint and resin production and complying with all the Environment regulations. The company seeks to promotes and embrace the principle of responsible stewardship of natural environment.
To achieve this, Crown Paints now has a fully operational automatic effluent water treatment plant and used solvent recovery plant. This has resulted in zero discharge to the environment all the wastes is treated and re-used.
The company has also invested in a dust exhausted system that removes dust and fumes generated during production activities hence eliminating the impacts associated with it.
There is also an Automatic fire suppression system (sprinklers and hydrant) installed in the factory. It serves as an emergency preparedness and response control in case of a fire outbreak.
With focus on the environment conservation, the company carries out staff trainings on EMS related courses, health and safety, risk assessment, noise surveys, air quality monitoring, periodical effluent and storm water analysis.
Currently Crown paint is working towards achieving OHSAS 18001 –Health and Safety management system
