Orange Colour Schemes

Summer Wedding

For a vast majority of people, colour is both an easy and difficult concept. We all (except for the colour blind) appreciate colour and identify our favourite colours from a very early age. It is that easy. The hard part comes when you want to combine a number of colours in a particular scheme for décor purposes. Be it in your home or at an event venue, just about any décor planning begins with deciding the colours you want to use.

Often, you want to combine more than one colour to achive the desired effect. Now that’s the challenging part. Things don’t always come together as we envision them in our minds. Today we share a few colours schemes that have been creatively employed to create some trully enchanting outcomes. We will look at some popular schemes of Orange (my childhood favourite colour). We will look at how shades of orange combine with other colours and also give tips on the best wall back ground colours and wooden funiture stain colours to use with these schemes

Orange colour Schemes combine the warmth of red with the happy brightness of yellow. The colour orange is the warmest hue on the colour wheel chart and it has an upbeat, positive, sunny vibe. The following orange colour schemes make good room colour combinations

1.      Rusty Retro

Rusty Retro Orange Colour Scheme

Colours: Pale Oak + Icy blue + Teal + Palest mauve + Rust

This is one of the best colour combinations for retro decorating and fashion. The greyish mauve and pale oal are essential for a vintage look, but if you decide to leave them out, you end up with a great colour combination for a rustic seaside/ mountain home

Best wall colours: White. Pale tan or manila beige

Best wood stain: Natural Oak

2.      Riviera

Riviera Orange Colour Scheme

Colours: Black Olive + Orange + Green olive + Stone + Cobalt blue + Chartreuse

Inspired by mediterrenean cooking & culture, this yellow-orange colour palette with intense cobalt blue and zesty chartreuse works great in a modern, mediterrenean style kitchen. The ‘stone’ colour makes a good neutral background hue

Best wall colours: full orange, or olive or even cobolt blue

Best wood Stain: Dark wallnut

3.      Terracotta & Blue: Easy Earth Tone colour Scheme

Terracotta & Blue Colour Scheme

Colours: Delft blue + Cream + Ivory + Terracotta

This blue-orange complementary colour combination is one of the easiest, most satisfying orange colour schemes. Earthly orange also coordinates beautifully with French blue, cobalt blue or royal blue. You can also replace orange with related reddish or yellowish earth colours eg. red ochre, yellow ochre, raw sienna or burnt sienna.

Best Wall colours: Soft terracota, cream, pale misty blue

Best wood Stains: Oak, rustic pine, or really deep dark browns

4.      Summer Wedding: Hot Fuschia/orange colour scheme

 Summer Wedding Colour Scheme

The orange/ hot Pink colour palette is fabulous for sunny out door weddings. Here is a combination of deep orange and pink wedding colours

Colour: Deeep Orange + Fushia pink + Pale pink + Leafy greens

With palest, chalky pink on the walls, you could use these strong colours even in a room or colour scheme. Imagine a striking orange bedroom colour palette focussed around, say, a quilt in orange, fuschia and deep greens.

Best Wall Colours: Palest pink, Gray, chalky sage green

Best wood stains: Dark hard woods

5.      Garden Party

Garden Party Colour Schemes

Colours: Dusty turquoise + Pale lime + Teal + Orange + Tangerine (red-orange) + Aqua + Verdigris

This blue-green orange palette would make an upbeat, year-round colour scheme. It looks good on textiles for sunny houses, veranda, deck or garden furniture. It combines orange with a range of analogous blues and greens from the opposite sides of the 3 primary colour wheels.

For a simpler version, use just one half of the combination above

Colour: Orange + Teal + Dusty turqoise + Lime green

The left side of the green garden party colour scheme is a warm citrus colour schem of orange & lime green, with added blue- green tones. It would make a nice, juicy kitchen colour palettes. If you find it too warm, add more aqua or turquoise to cool it down.

Best wall colours: white, pale apricot, light chalky lime green

Best Wood stain: Any

These are just a few orange based colour schemes. Try them and experience the warmth and allure of Orange

I find this very interesting! Do you have suggestions on colours that combine well with grey? I have a large bedroom with grey wardrobes and off-white walls and I would like to make the room interesting. Important for me is the feeling of warmth.

      Jayne,

Thank you for the feedback. Your gray wardrobes can be considered the trim colour for your bedroom decor, while the off – white walls constitute the main colour. What your room needs is an accent colour to complement the gray and off-white. I suggest that you get furniture, or a flour rag or other furnishings in blue (sky or navy or cobalt). Alternatively you can furnish the room in light shades of purple like lavender. A hint of fuschia can also give it some warmth.

All the best and welcome to the crown blog.

Interesting. I am building my house and i am at a loss of where to start. I would like hues of yellow and something appropriate in my sitting room. I would aldo like something dramatic/unique for the exterior walls. Please advise. My tiles are cream in all the rooms
