Some say: “If you like it, crown it”. Others would put it this way: “Chanda chema huvishwa pete”. Or perhaps for some: “Mke ni Nguo, Mgomba palilia”. There are many ways of saying it but the bottom line is that anything of value is treasured by giving it care and adorning it further.
It is with this belief in mind that Crown Paints co-sponsored the 3rd edition of Trendz Kenya Fashion Festival held last week at the Tribe Hotel Village Market on 14th July 2012.
Crown paints CEO, Rakesh Rao, underscored the reasons for the sponsorship: “At Crown Paints we work with colours and colours and fashion go together. If you want to have a beautiful house or fabric you must have a great colour”. Broadly speaking many uses of paint can be an expression of fashion and an indicator of lifestyle or status.
But the parallels and symbolism aside, we identify with the festival’s objectives of positioning Kenya as an emerging fashion and urban lifestyle capital of Africa. Further, we see our business as a key player in the local economy and a promoter of social advancement. We want to be more than just a fringe player but an intergral agent of this advancement.
Crown’s sponsorship was a contribution to aid the event towards achieving its objectives of:
- Helping build enterprise image
- Promoting of cooperation and trade
- Creating awareness of the latest trends of the industry
- Nurturing brands and building a golden bridge between the demand and supply.
- Contributing to the growth of the Private Sector through the fashion industry
The Event
True to its billing, the festival was a success and a worthy headline catcher. Several renowned fashion designers as well as talented emerging designers graced the occasion. This year’s models were a mix of sexy men and stunning women with a surprise walk from former Miss India Kenya, Pooja Kaaria, who stepped onto the runway with Mumbai Fashion Star, Anita Dongre designs.
Other fashion designers peresent included Kenya’s very own, John Kaveke whose models showcased various fabulous kanga designs. Niku Channa’s accessories were gorgeous. inairobi fashion designs we also great. South Africa’s Paledi Segapo was a show stopper when his male models came on to the ramp with nothing but their red and blue fabrics. Kenya’s Sharma nd jamil Walji and Tanzania’s Ally Rehmtullahalso took part.
Not to be left behind, we showcased our crown paints colours on white fabric draped like Greek goddesses on the ladies. Our company models came in a special category during the show.
Look out for the upcoming 4th edition of Trendz Kenya Fashion Festival.
